In Paris, Adele (Turkish-Illyés Orsolya) is facing an unwanted pregnancy. In Budapest, Nóra (Sitos Vera) is hiding that she and her husband (Zoltán Schmied) want to adopt a child. In Berlin, Becky (Rosalia Székely) confronts her family by wanting to be a single mother. The life of the three women in their 40s is at a turning point: they only have to make life-changing decisions in one day. Each one has an initial problem - be it infertility, abortion or having children alone. However, supposed solutions only lead to more complications.
Mambo Maternica takes place in three cities, Budapest, Berlin and Paris. I was attracted to the idea that stories are moving west from Hungary. This is not only geographical, but also emotional distance from the possibility of living in a different way from the classic family model. In Budapest we learn the story of an adoption, the Berlin character no longer looks for a partner to have children, and in Paris the question is whether there should be a child at all , said Borbála Nagy.
